Jenkins Johnson Gallery is pleased to participate in the 27th edition of Paris Photo with, “To Paris with Love,” highlighting artists from the 1950s to present, influenced by French life and culture, and lived experience in Paris. Featuring vintage and recent works, featuring artists Poulomi Basu, Renee Cox, Lola Flash, Gordon Parks, and Ming Smith. This multigenerational group of artists lends contrasting perspectives to this presentation. A pivotal figure in 20th-century art, Gordon Parks' participation is highlighted in works from the 1950s in Paris. Ming Smith, the first black female photographer acquired by MoMA, creates haunting, ethereal photographs whose images are icons of 20th-century life. Lola Flash explores sexual, racial, and cultural issues. A member of Act Up in the 1980s and 90s, their Cross Colour series focuses on the global impact of AIDS. Influenced by fashion and Renaissance paintings, Renee Cox’s work is also part of the feminist art movement in America. Poulomi Basu's introduction to the French audience was at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival Film with Maya: The Birth of a Superhero, an interactive Virtual Reality film. Basu's work generally addresses ignored or underreported issues directly affecting women.
