The Jerry can be a familiar object not only in Ethiopia but across Africa. I wanted to explore the use of the object in the form of a mask that also symbolizes that the lack of addressing publicly the issue of water access as one that has been “masked”. One that for those of us we see the plight of the women but have not empathized on the challenges that women face in rural regions because to us they are faceless.
