This year’s highly anticipated Whitney Biennial, the country’s longest-running survey of contemporary art, features seventy-one artists and collectives exploring some of today’s most pressing issues. Titled “Even Better Than the Real Thing,” the show is curated by Chrissie Iles and Meg Onli and is now on view through August 11. Here, Galerie talks to a selection of the show’s standout artists including Suzanne Jackson, Tourmaline, JJJJJerome Ellis, Harmony Hammond, and Eddie Rodolfo Aparicio about their inspirations, processes, and what it means to be featured. “The Whitney Biennial brings together every two years a group of contemporary artists to take a snapshot of what is going on in the art world but also in the larger world,” Iles tells Galerie on the opening day.
